This evidence-based group will be led by Nicole LeBlanc MA, MSW, RSW, a Clinical Social Worker who offers psychotherapy through M.H.A.S.O. She has been practicing & leading mindfulness-based interventions over the past 4.5 years. She is a qualified teacher in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) through the School of Medicine, University of Massachusetts, & in Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT), developed by Psychologist Dr. Jean Kristeller (co-founder of the Center for Mindful Eating, NH). She is also a teacher in training in Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) through the School of Medicine, University of San Diego.

MBSR was developed boy Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Associates in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare and Society. This course stems from the ever expanding field of Mind-Body-Medicine, becoming internationally renowned as a result of the evidence-based research that highlights its benefit in treating a variety of mental and physical health issues among several populations.
What To Expect:
Program activities include meditation, short talks, experiential exercises, group discussion, and home practices.
You will learn:
*Healthy ways to cope with stress, anxiety and other forms of mental and physical health conditions. *How to let go of worrying about the past & future, and live a more present & balanced life *Practical techniques to enhance self-care and create healthier, meaningful relationships with others.
No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend MBSR. To insure safety, participants are asked to provide background information when they register for the program.
Instructor: This program will be facilitated by Nicole LeBlanc (MA, MSW RSW). Nicole is a clinical Social Worker, Psychotherapist and Qualified Mindfulness teacher. She is qualified in the following mindfulness intervention approaches: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) (University of Massachusetts, School of Medicine) and Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT) (developed by Dr. Jean Kristeller, co-founder of Center for Mindful Eating NH). Dates: April 28th - June 23rd 2020
Full day silent retreat held after the 5th session.
Where: this 8 week course will take place at Mental Health & Addiction Services of Ottawa (M.H.A.S.O.) located at 200-1489 Merivale Rd. Ottawa ON, K2E5P3. The full day silent retreat will be held at Davalon Healing Centre located in Richmond (https://www.davalonhealingcentre.com). Car pooling will be arranged the morning of the retreat day from the MBSR group site.
Cost: $495 CAD, due 1 week prior to the first session of the program.
This program would not be appropriate for anyone who is:
* under the age of 18 *currently struggling with an active addiction * experiencing psychosis *in crisis *experienced a recent trauma
