Theo holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University and a post-graduate certificate in Addictions Treatment and Prevention in addition to other various credentials he obtained by pursuing several educational programs in various disciplines. Over the past five years, Theoneste has held various positions in different organizations that allowed him to apply his counselling knowledge and skills while providing services to different populations groups from various cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. Theoneste has a passion for making a difference in people’s lives, especially those who are living on the margins of society, in grips of mental health and addiction problems, or people who are homeless or have come into contact with the criminal justice system.Â
Theo exhibit emphatic, non-judgmental, and respectful behaviours in all interactions with his clients, and demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities needed to competently work with clients from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, social and economic statuses, religious and spiritual believes, and sexual orientations. The principles that guide his work with clients include empathy, acceptance, compassion, positive regard, collaboration, and partnership.Â
Theo embraces humanistic, integrative, and wholistic approaches to counselling and psychotherapy. To enhance and promote the growth, well-being, and mental health of individuals, couples, families, and groups, Theoneste actively engages these clients in all steps of the counselling process from establishing and maintaining a therapeutic relationship through assessment, intervention, and evaluation of outcomes to termination of the therapeutic relationship. He uses various theoretical orientations, therapeutic modalities or techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI)) to attend to various clients ‘presenting problems. Theoneste considers not only the internal world of the client (affective, cognitive, behavioural, physiological and the transpersonal dimensions of the individual) but also the impact of external world (social, cultural, and political factors) on the client’s mental health condition and experience.
Theo value professional growth and development and is enrolled in several therapeutic modality trainings and certification courses including but not limited to Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) for PTSD, Anxiety, Depression & Personality Disorders; Advanced CBT training, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Dual Certified Child and Family Trauma Professional, The Complete Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy Competency Course, The Gottman Method Approach to Transforming Relationships, ADHD Certification course; Binge Eating & Chronic Dieting Certification course; Advanced Grief Counselling Certification Training; Anxiety, Depression & Mood Disorder Certification Course, Trauma Treatment Certification Training, and DBT Certification Training.
